Bringing your spiritual mentor to work

Imagine the impact that connecting to — and trusting — your inner guidance would have on your career. For starters, it would mean that, regardless of the situation you’re facing, you would no longer have to worry or wonder about what to “do.” Instead, you would focus your attention on how to think and, the more you think with a miracle-minded perspective, the more you’ll discover that this creates better outcomes for everyone.

As an example, consider for a moment the difference in energy you’d bring to a meeting where you had to get a certain result versus the energy you’d bring if your intention was simply to be helpful and of service. In the first scenario, your angsty vibe would most likely prevent you from getting what you want. On the other hand, if you shift your focus from managing the outcome to managing your own perception, then not only does this open your mind to possibilities you wouldn’t have considered otherwise, but people will be more willing to collaborate with you because they know you’re not trying to manipulate them. This isn’t to say that you don’t ask for what you want; the key is to be clear on where you’re coming from when you ask. When the goal is to align your perspective with Love, the effect is that you act with greater wisdom and compassion. This makes you extremely impressive — particularly under pressure — without your having to strive to be impressive at all.

Accordingly, whenever you’d like to engage your own inner guidance at work — before an important meeting or an interview, for example — bear in mind this key similarity between career mentors and your internal mentor: in both situations you are the driver of the relationship. In the office, it’s your job to go to your mentor when you need help versus hoping they will automatically know when to swoop in and save the day. From a spiritual perspective, the parallel here is that you not only have to be clear on what you’re asking for — meaning a shift in perspective leading to more loving behavior — but in order to get it you have to ask, period.
